This raid saw the PAF suffer its first casualty of the undeclared war that was in progress. Flying Officer Nasir Mahmood Butt, trailing some 2,000 ft behind the formation, was exiting at low level when his aircraft was hit and he was forced to eject, landing fortunately near Pakistani troops. He was back at Sargodha by the eveningy, but had to keep out of further operations owing to an injury sustained during ejection. It was suspected by some at the time that own ground fire was responsible for the loss of this Sabre. Despite all possible safeguards, in the confusion of the land battle, own ground forces in close combat with the enemy may be excused such an error, if indeed it was so. An Indian account published after the war credits Flight Lieutenant Virendra Singh Pathania, a Gnat pilot, with a Sabre aircraft shot down on this date at about this time over this area.
Two successful photo recce sorties for the army were flown by RT-33s. One sortie, unescorted, did a mosaic of the Tithwal area and the other escorted by 2 Sabres obtained a mosaic of the Akhnur sector. Recces from Akhnur towards Jammu also reported that about 60 civil vehicles loaded with men, women and children were moving out. Mauripur for its part, still undisturbed, continued to scan its horizons, fully prepared for any enlargement of the conflict.
