The battle itself continued unabated on September 4. Pak Army was knocking hard on the defences of Jaurian. The hold up at Troti had to be overcome. The enemy was holding well prepared and good defensive positions. A new brigade was called into action, and undertook Outflanking movements from the north and south and frontal thrusts supported by heavy artiliery fire, until Indians could stand little more; they showed unmistakable signs of giving way, and by nightfall it was almost certain that their positions were cracking. Relentless pressure and hard fighting had enabled the Pak forces to pierce the formidabie Indian defences, and they were now poised to occupy Jaurian the next morning.
In the air,the PAF kept at bay their adversary while taking an effective though limited part in the ground battle. In the afternoon of 4 September, squadron Leader M Arshad, commanding 15 squadron, led a strike mission against target of oppertunities in and around the battle field. During these attacks, his group accounted for about 26 vehicles. In his fourth attack Squadron Leader Arshad hit a truck loaded with fuel and ammunition, which blew up and attracted the second formation to the target area. By the time the third formation arrived there were no worthwhile targets remaining. As they scoured the area for other possible targets, they found themselves under fire by ack ack guns on the Akhnur bridge at Jaurian, but managed to inflict substential demage upon what looked like a large field HQ south of Jammu.
