Second successful flight test of Air Launched Cruise Missile Raad – 8th May 2008

Pakistan on 8th May 2008 conducted the second successful flight test of the indigenously developed Air Launched Cruise Missile, Ra’ad (Hatf-VIII). Ra’ad with a range of 350 kms, has been developed exclusively for launch from aerial platforms. Ra’ad Cruise Missile has special stealth capabilities as it is a Low Altitude, Terrain hugging missile with high maneuverability, and can deliver all types of warheads, with great accuracy.

Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Rauf Engin Soysal and Maj. Gen. Sirin Unal, Deputy Commander, First Air Force Command Eskisehir witnessed 10-day multi-dimensional operational exercise ‘Indus Viper 2008’ between Pakistan Air Force and Turkish Air Force being underway in Sargodha. Air Commodore M Ashfaque Arian, Base Commander PAF Base Mushaf briefed the visiting dignitaries on the joint air exercise. Air Forces of the two brotherly countries are conducting a joint operational exercise to enhance interaction between the forces of the two countries.

Pakistan successfully conducted the first training launch of long range ballistic missile Hatf VI, (Shaheen-II) on 21 April 2008. The launch was conducted by Army Strategic Force Command and marked the culmination of a field training exercise. According to ISPR, it validated the operational readiness of a strategic missile group equipped with Shaheen-II missile. Shaheen-II is Pakistan’s longest range ballistic missile system with a range of 2000km. It is a two stage solid fuel missile, which can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads.

Passing out parade of the 117th Long Course at the Pakistan Military Academy Kakul was held in the Academy at Abbottabad on 19th April 2008. Chief of Navel Staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir was the chief guest at the occasion. Cadet Aziz Akram was awarded the Sword of Honor.
Two Hindu cadets also were among the cadets who successfully completed the course.

A graduation parade was held at Pakistan Air Force Academy, Risalpur on 18 April 2008 marking the culmination of No 120th GDP and 64th Engineering courses. General Tariq Majid, Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Chief of Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, Air Chief Marshal, Tanveer Mehmood Ahmad also witnessed the parade.
The coveted Sword of Honor for best all round performance in College of Aeronautical Engineering was awarded to Pilot Officer Anaf Hanan Lodhi, while the coveted Sword of Honor for best all round performance in College of Flying Training was awarded to Pilot Officer Muhammad Bilal Ahmad.

Pakistan Navy Ship KARRAR, the second Multi Role Tactical Platform (MPTP-33) was commissioned into Pakistan Navy on 11 April 2008. The commissioning ceremony was held at PNS Dockyard where Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir was the chief guest.
The craft is designed for fast attack, maritime interdiction operation, contact probing and protection of coastal installations. Its has high stealth characteristics and can carry surface to surface missiles and guns.
