    PAF A-5 crashes, pilot killed

A PAF A-5 fighter-bomber crashed on Thursday, 17 January, near Chakwal. The aircraft took off from PAF Murid at 11:00 a.m. The pilot ejected but was killed when he hit a tree immediately after the ejection.

I blame his death on the PAF why are they putting our outstanding pilots in these pieces of s***t? are there lives not more important than those A-5 which are useless anyways??

    Salam,

The A-5 has served PAF well and it deserves all the credit. But every aircraft type has its life, and even new one's do crash sometimes. The cause of the crash was engine failure, and after all it is a machine that might malfunction anytime. It was bad luck of the pilot that he did not successfully land safely(May his soul rest in peace).Plus the PAF has a fairly impeccable aircraft safety record compared to the IAF and the A-5s will be progressively withdrawn and replaced by new generation aircraft.

    Regards.

i really do think that those planes have given their service to the Paf and now should be shleved. they are obsolete, probably their operating cost are huge. Why do we need them? they are not going to turn the tide of a war, see i only have a problem with the A-5 becuase it is very crash prone and safety risk. Notice that i didnt say anything about the f-6 because even if they are obsolete they nearly dont crash as much and therefore dont put our personnel at unnessary risk.

Yes omear, you have a valid point here.

What new generation aircraft is replacing the A-5 in PAF service?? I thought they would be replaced by the new F-7MG.

The Super-7 will replace the A-5s,F-7s and Mirages.Plus the F-7MG itself is a generation ahead of the A-5 in manouvrability, avionics, radar and the Upgraded Mirages are even better than the F-7s.

F-7s are not good for ground attack because of their small size. I think PAF should go for two squadrons of Chinese FBC-1s (JH-7) in the dedicated deep penetration strike role once it is fully developed, that is.

We don't know the cause of the crash as yet. Low flying aircraft face far greater risks than those at higher altitudes so their respective attrition rates will be higher.

We have lost a Mujahid. May Allah Subhan Wa Tallah grant our Shaheen place in Paradise.

  17. Question

Mr Azam, keeping in view that FBC-1 is underpowered, can carry limited quantity and types of equipment (LGBs??), is big and unmenuverable, has no good defensive EW suite, and most importantly is unlikely to be ordered by China in any significant numbers, why do you suggest it be used in a going deep into India, given their very good radar coverage and SAM invenotory, not to mention loads of interceptors and soon to be delivered AWACS.

    Thats it!
    We should ground the fleet.
We lost a brave Pakistani , despite the fact that every life is a whole world in itself. PAF will have other pilots, but PAF cannot replace a mothers son, a wifes husband or a childs father.

Even in pure economic terms a well trained PAF pilot is worth more then the price of an A-5.
If we are finally phasing out our F-6's this year we should do the same with A-5, don't want us becoming like IAF and sending men out in death traps!

May Allah look after the pilots family.

FBC-1 is still in the development stage. So it's too early to write an obituary for it. Main problem with FBC-1 is its weight and engine. Both can be overcome. With the right engines it will have more thrust than any PAF strike aircraft, including F-16 and Mirage V. FBC-1 can also carry more armaments than any combat aircraft in the PAF inventory. PAF needs to have deep penetration strike aircraft to neutralize IAF bases in places such as Agra and Poona where most of IAF's hi-tech tech aircraft are kept.

  20. Yes perhaps, but my understanding is that during war time, aircraft are dispersed to forward bases as well just so that the enemy has a harder time tracking down which aircraft are where and possible routes they would take in action. But if FBC-1s main weapons load is still in form of GP bombs, I dont think its going to be very effective as a deep strike platform.

the new production jh7's are upgraded with two additional underwing points and are fitted with the new blue sky chinese lantirn pod. they also are able to carry local laser guided bombs.

    from Hui Tong's
engineers at 603 Institute are still making various improvements on JH-7 which inlcude the new JL-10A PD multi-mode radar, new Blue Sky low altitude navigational pod (comparable to American LANTIRN system), HMS, digital FBW system, one-piece windshield, two additional underwing hardpoints, new databus and INS/GPS. The result is the upgraded JH-7A, capable of delivering a variety of PGMs and stand-off missiles, including Kh-31/KR-1 ASM. It was reported that WS-9 would be replaced by Russian AL-31F turbofan but the plan was later abandoned due to its high cost

    Pakistan air force jet missing

    Pakistan air force jet missing

    Karachi, Jan 25

A Pakistan air force jet was missing Thursday after taking off on a routine mission, an official said.

"A search is under way," the air force official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

There has been no statement from the defence ministry of a missing jet, but civil aviation sources said they believed the plane went down in the Arabian Sea, near Karachi's Keamari port.

It was not known if the pilot ejected, they said.

The type of aircraft was not identified, but the Pakistan air force maintains a large fleet including Mirage, F-16, and Chinese F-7 aircraft.

I hate to say this, but could the baboons have something to do with this, given the density of IN ships/carrier in the Arabian sea ??

Not that this is my "field of expertise", but still, there is something to be said about the way Chinese weapons programmes operate (or progress).

For example, the J-7 program. In all respects, the initial production in China of the J-7 was "very under par" when compared to the Mig 21s in operation/production with other nations. However, the gradual development of teh platform has churned out, probably, the best variant of the Mig 21 flying today. (even after allowing the US pull out of the last upgrade).

Similarly, the FBC-1 seems to have a "gradual" accendency chalked out for it. Its initial status has a little to be desired, but it has been designed to "allow" for such improvements.
This gives you an idea of was the thinking behind its design.

Effectively, this is the system of development followed by many nations who have allocated limited amounts of "their own" budgets to military expenditure.

Sub-system development, and later system development, rather than platform development has lead to some of the most formiddable fighter aircraft in the world, the Phantom, Flanker, and Hornet being very good example.

The manner in which Chinese programs are progressing gives a view that their ambitions are cradled by their economic development and not vice versa. This is something our neighbour might be wise to learn.

Pakistan, perhaps due to Beijing, has seemed to have instituted a similar modular course for its weapons developments. (Look into our missile, sub and SAM/AAM developments and you understand why only these particular ones were pursued amongst other choices).
