MORROCO CUP:
PAKISTAN BEAT SRI LANKA BY 28 RUNS IN MOROCCO CUP.
Pakistan have celebrated their country's Independence Day with a 28-run victory over Sri Lanka in the second match of the Morocco Cup triangular tournament in Tangiers.
The Pakistanis amassed 279 for five from their 50 overs after being given first strike and then restricted Sri Lanka to 251 for eight.
All-rounder Abdul Razzaq demolished the Sri Lankans with three for 36 while Wasim Akram claimed two for 56.
Pakistan's total revolved around three half-centuries, the most notable being a 56 not out by Younis Khan off just 39 balls.
Opener Saeed Anwar laid the foundations for Pakistan's daunting total with 70 from 77 balls, while Inzamam-ul Haq hit a 63.
But the hard-hitting display by Younis and Razzaq towards the end of the innings overshadowed the senior batsmen.
Razzaq remained unbeaten on 29 off 11 balls as Pakistan clubbed 45 runs in the last three overs, including 25 in the final over bowled by left-arm seamer Chaminda Vaas.
Younis hit five boundaries and two sixes, while Razzaq smashed two fours and two sixes before the overs ran out.
Despite reaching 116 for the loss of just one wicket by the 22nd over, mainly due to captain Sanath Jayasuriya's crisp 36 from 33 balls, Sri Lanka were never able to maintain the required scoring rate and lost wickets regularly.
It was Pakistan's first win in the US$250,000 event after going down to South Africa by 54 runs in Monday's opening match.
Sri Lanka now face in-form South Africa on Thursday.
