    Cheap Alternative To Cruise Missile

Guys I was think that Pak should have an alternative for Cruise Missile because we don't publicly have Cruise missiles. So what about Kamakazi UAVs? These are used extensively by the Israels. Although Kamakazi UAVs go slower then Mach speed, they are a lot more accurate! We already produce UAVs, I think all we need to do now is to get rid of all the extra sensors and put in a warhead. Thus making it a Kamakazi UAV

    Tell me what you think?

    P.S I am not crazy!

I think Kamakazi UAVs are a good idea and can be built by Pakistan. Pakistan does not have the technology to build Cruise Missiles. Also, Kamakazi UAV's are cheaper to produce than a standard UAVs - for one, they can be rail launched and they don't need a landing gear!

In particular, they can be used for SEAD operations, especially against IAF bases near the border. I can also visualize a Pak Kamakazi UAV ramming into a taxiing MiG-27 in Jaselmer AB in Rajasthan!

I would have to disagree here. This might be a fantasy option, but in reality it really is not one.

Except for HALE UAV's like Global hawk, most UAV's are very slow, and carry a very small payload. Pak UAV's carry around 25kg. Assuming that Pak UAV's do reach their targets, they most probably will not be able to cause any significant damage. In any case, its hardly an alternative to a cruise missile containing massive warhead, and slams in at its target at probably just below Mach 1???

Without a shadow doubt, the UAV's are indeed underutilised. More realistic and useful roles would be :

    1) Use them for communication purposes.
    2) Electronic warfare purposes...maybe Early warning perhaps..

UAV's are already used for surveillance.

Sheikh, actually it is not a far fetched idea. Here in Singapore we purchased like India both the Searcher and Scout UAVs.There have been consistent reports that we are working on modifying them to be cruise missiles.

Two major charcteristics of the UAV we are trying to improve is speed and payload.Without the speed it can easily be brought down by SAM or AA guns. Its a very hush hush project and the info i have got has all been from foreign observers and analysts.

I also constantly hear that the possible payload for such a cruise missile could be a non nuclear EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse) device which will fry enemy communications and radar at H minus 1.
Wonder whether the PAF has ever thought along these lines.

I thought of this when I noticed Israel use its Kamakazi UAVs to destroy Explosive "Factory" in Ramallah. Rafaqat we can easily try increase the speed of the UAV because we don't have to worry about human body's response to extreme speed unlike the Fighter Jets. And when we increase the speed, most probably it will also increase the weight capability. If you look at the UAV's most of them are filled with sensor stuff. We can dump all the extra electronics thus saving money and weight.

Saladin thank alot for the info. But I have small question for you! Does Pakistan have an EMP bomb? If so it possible to get one smuggled to Israel and Banglore (Indian Silicon Valley)

    Hi Sheikh,
Dont know whether Pakistan has such a device.Anyway with nukes does Pakistan really need such a device?
The EMP device down here in SE Asia is unconfirmed though i have heard it from a reliable person who is a defence analyst in Malaysia.
Rumour has it that israeli technical help played a great part in putting together the device. Its technical specifications and whether it will work are not known.

Anyhow in SE Asia its much safer to use such devices as the militaries here are not on a hair trigger with WMDs aimed at each other. In the subcontinent there are grave risks in using even a non nuke EMP as it could easily be mistaken for a nuke first strike and usher in Armageddon.

True the EMP might be considered a Nuclear attack but EMP bomb is more useful in the long run because it does not cause collatoral damage. Also if Pak Commandos can sneak them in to Indian Silos we can totally disable their missles.

But the best use will be its use against Israel. WE can pass these goodies to Arabs who will be able to disable Israeli Nuclear threat! Israel has been using it to blackmail all the Arabs preventing Arabs from banding together and destorying Israel!(Typo)

I read in Popular Science that an EMP bomb can be made for less then $500 US and can be made by anyone with meager mechanical knowledge! IF so Pakistan should keep at least couple of them!
