What a beauty!!! The first picture is great!
Thanks for posting Khan sahib!
I don't know if J-10B is better or not in terms of weapon system when compared to F-16s but this bird has certainly taken first place in appearence category.![]()

Not just J-10s but almost everything PLAAF has, including K-8. Here is PLA AIR FORCE 2009 China National Day parade video

Would it have hurt them to put couple of FC-1s up there?![]()

Hui Tong's site has updated J-10B info:
(Initially AESA then to PESA and now X-band AESA!)
The 01/1031 prototype of the new J-10B was unveiled in March 2009, 3 months after its maiden flight in December 2008. This much improved variant features a DSI/bump engine inlet which not only cuts weight but also reduces RCS, after a similar design was first tested onboard FC-1/JF-17. The aircraft also features a J-11B style IRST/LR and a wide-angle holographic HUD. IRST enables passive detection of enemy aircraft, making J-10B more stealthy in combat. Its nose appears flatter too, similar to that of American F-16, and fire-control radar is thought to be an X-band AESA developed by the 607 Institute, the first of such type ever being developed for a Chinese fighter aircraft, giving J-10B a stronger multi-target engagement and ECCM capability. Two large ECM pods are attached under the wings. The tip of vertical tailfin was redesigned as well, featuring a large fairing containing communication and ECM antennas, which resembles that of French Mirage 2000. A rear facing MAWS sensor can be seen underneath the parachute boom. A similar system was tested onboard FC-1/JF-17 as well. All these improvements suggest that J-10B is equipped with a new generation of integrated electronic system, ranging from radar to EW system. The aircraft thus serves likely as a testbed for various advanced avionics onboard the 4th generation J-14. Its mission may be changed from air-superiority to multi-purpose, such as AG or EW. In addition, the aircarft is expected to be powered eventually by an indigenous WS-10A turbofan. Overall J-10B is thought to be comparable to American F-16E/Block 60.

Few notes from Air Power Australia:

X-Band AESA:...
The important and recent development in electronically steered antennas is the solid state X-band (centimetric wavelength) AESA, built using Gallium Arsenide chips. This technology is now being retrofitted to in-service fighters and will be a standard production component in the F-22A and F-35 series fighters, and most likely a downstream production/upgrade item for late model F-16C, F/A-18E/F, Typhoon and Rafale fighters.
...
The first generation of AESAs to field will be the L-band (decimetric) radars used in the Israeli Phalcon derivatives, and importantly the RAAF's Wedgetail MESA radar which is expected to be used in the new USAF MC2A (Multi-sensor Command Control Aircraft) E-3 AWACS, E-8 JSTARS, RC-135 Rivet Joint replacement. The lower L-band operating frequency of these radars permits the use of older transistor technology, giving this class of AESA about 5 years of market lead against the X-band fighter AESAs.
The E-8 JSTARS is a candidate for an X-band AESA replacement of its existing passive ESA radar, used for high resolution mapping and surface target detection. It is likely that the planned JSTARS AESA will be used on the MC2A - the MC2A variant to be used to replace the JSTARS/AWACS combo will be a 767 airframe carrying both radars (this is a potential growth path for the Wedgetail, by the addition of a JSTARS/MC2A derivative radar under the forward fuselage).
...
Israel's Elta has published datasheets on a range of X-band GaAs MMIC chips which would be suitable for an AESA but as yet no disclosures of system level products have been made.
Reports also suggest that the Russian radar houses are working on AESA designs, although details remain very sketchy. Any Russian design would have to make use of imported GaAs MMIC chips as Russia's industry lags severely in this area. A likely outcome is that COTS GaAs MMICs would be adapted for a Russian design, as the export controls on high volume X-band satellite transceiver chips are likely to be unenforcable over the coming decade. A suitcase of GaAs MMIC chips makes for a lot of AESAs.

New generation of fighter jets on horizon:
By Deng Jingyin
Wednesday, November 11, 2009: A senior military officer said Monday China's military pilots could expect to jump into the most advanced fighter jets in 8 to 10 years, while President Hu Jintao called for a "new chapter" in the development of China's air force. Hu made the remarks while he met senior officers, experts, role models and pilots with representatives from People's Liberation Army Air Force Sunday, one of the events held to mark the 60th anniversary of the air force.
China's national defense and its army's modernization are confronted with new situations and tasks. In accordance with the requirements of both offensive and defensive operations, the air force is urged to strengthen the development of military system, Hu said.
The same day, He Weirong, deputy commander of the air force told China Central Television that military pilots could expect to jump into the most advanced fighter jets in 8 to 10 years that will have stealth capability.
He said that the planes are in development and will match or exceed the capability of similar jets in existence today.
Worldwide, the 4th generation jet fighters, with the US-made F-22 raptor as the bench mark, is also known as the 5th generation fighter planes based on Russian standard. They will have the 4S ability, which are stealth, super cruise, super maneuverability and short take-off.
"Compared with the 3rd and the improved 3.5 generation, the 4th generation fighters have overwhelming technological advantages. Its most striking characteristic is the capability of invisibility, which also could be called low detectability," Dai Xu, an air force colonel and military strategist, told the Global Times Monday.
Currently, the F-22 is the only in-service 4th generation fighter in the world. The F-35 and Russia's T-50 are in the development process.
Chinese 4th generation fighter is the 4th one entering into the actual development process.
According to Dai, the development of the 4th generation fighter shows the progress of Chinese Air Force's modernization.
"America is already equipped with 4th generation fighter jets. It clearly shows the direction of the development of the air force. China is developing the 4th generation fighters, which means that China's weapons are developing steadily but also indicates China lags behind in the field," Dai added.
China-made third-generation fighter J-10's performance is equivalent to US F-16 fighter, deputy commander He said in the interview.
"J-10's max weapon load is up to six tons with 11 pylons and its shortest take-off distance is only 350 meters," he said.
J-10 performing at National Day military parade will be showcased in an air show in Beijing tomorrow to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the PLA air force, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
"J-10 is China's first combat aircraft with independent intellectual property rights, equivalent to foreign 3rd generation fighters in terms of performance. J-10 will continue to be improved," Zhang Jigao, deputy chief designer of J-10 said.
Improved Design program of J-10 has been in full swing and its more advanced sister model will be available in the near future, an insider told Hong Kong-based newspaper Wen Wei Po.
