ISLAMABAD: Pakistani troops deployed under UN Peacekeeping Mission in Sierra Leone have undertaken multifarious humanitarian tasks to provide relief to the famished people of that strife-torn country. In a statement issued by ISPR on Sunday, the towns of Koidu and Kailahun, major beneficiaries of the secure and stable environments provided by the efforts of Pakistani contingent were now humming with social activity and the people got a sigh of relief.
Pakistani troops in their efforts for the restoration of basic civic amenities for the common man, including water supply system accessible to the locals of Daru town, which was unapproachable earlier due to the damaged culverts and bad condition of the road. Pakistan Army Engineers were working round the clock, making gruelling efforts to repair various roads in Kailahun district.
The medical teams of Pakistan Army field hospital were also rendering valuable service in aid of suffering humanity. They were not only providing medical facilities to civil patients of the local area but they also accompany the air and ground army patrols to treat patients in the far-flung areas. Teams of Pakistan Army paramedical staff along with the Unicef polio vaccination teams visited remote areas to administer polio vaccination drops to children for immunisation against the crippling disease.
The Pakistan Field Hospital in Koidu and Kailahun organised a free medical camp for the destitute and needy, where more than five thousand patients were provided medical treatment. Force Commander UN Peacekeeping Force Lt-Gen Daniel Opande visited this medical camp. They also provided furniture and stationery items to primary schools located in close proximity of their camp, the statement added.
